Carlow is not the county which pops into peoples minds when asked about Ireland but we have so much to offer.

From our wonderful expanses of green and fertile land to the mountains of Wicklow and Wexford which border and protect our boundaries, our people who will always talk themselves up and the spirit we show when asked to combat the ‘big boys’ in sport. We are a very proud county and are sometimes accused of being clannish but this is just our protective nature. Our history is one of industry in the town from the once great and mighty sugar factory to Braun which employed almost 3000 in its prime, the people of Carlow are industrious, and have and will continue to fight back against the job cuts and  factory closures.

There is a positive vibe throughout the county driven by people from all walks of life who have continued to raise the spirits of its people, Connie Hyland- Byrne and her wonderful ‘Walls are Us’ project which recently brought together the community in a way not seen in many years, the George Bernard Shaw theatre is also a community focal point which has given the people of Carlow an outlet to display their talents and artistic temperament. We have much to celebrate in Carlow and I will look at various aspects of life here from time to time and hopefully enlighten those from outside the county to our positive ways!
